Tips for writing a cover letter:

Make a different cover letter for each company, adding information of the specified organization will show the employer you investigated about the business and that you’re really interested on working with them.

- Make a list of what skills makes you different from the rest, what kind of vintages you can provide to the company if they decide to hire you.

- Describe if you had similar experience to the job you are applying for, where you gained that experience, what tasks you made and how you made them.

- List your relevant skills, those who represent you better, every employer wants to know more about the achievement of the job seekers.

- Content is the most important part of the cover letter but it’s also important the layout it has, make it clear, use lists to describe some points, and try to fit all your data in only one page.

- If you waited for more than a week and still don’t receive any answer, don’t be afraid of contacting the organization and ask politely if your resume and cover letter has been received.

- Be specific on what are you looking for, this is the reason why is important a cover letter, it lets you explain if you’re looking for a summer job, a part time job or if you have a permanent position.

- Specify how you knew about the vacancy, via newspaper, advertisement, mail or a suggestion from a friend that works in the company, sometimes it’s a good idea to mention someone that works there.

- The cover letter is seen first, for this reason it has to be well written because after this the employer will decide if he/she takes a look to your resume.

- List your personal skills, attitude, enthusiasm, good communication and motivation.

- If some information was specifically requested in the job advertisement and it’s not on your resume, you have to describe it here.

Its not enough to land on the right job, you should know how to handle risky salary negotiations to receive the pay that is tantamount to your skills and job experience. Below are the ten simple rules to be in the winning end of this job hunting madness.

1.Do your research on the salary offered for the position that you are seeking. Know what you are worth in the marketplace by reading printed materials, researching online or through word of mouth from career experts or people from your industry.

2. Wait for the employer to make the actual job offer because as a job seeker, you are not in the position to initiate the salary negotiations. If your asked about your expected salary, its advisable to give a range that a specific amount.

3.Bring your previous performance evaluations or letters of recommendation to support your salary request. It is much better if the recommendation letter came from the superior to make it more accurate and precise.

4. Delay the salary negotiation as long as possible until you know your full job description and duties.

5. Highlight, but don’t brag, your strengths and achievements in your career that you think will make them know your a possible gem of the company.

6. Never lie about your current earnings or salary history to increase your perceived value, because you might get disappointed if they offer you a much lower salary.

7. Do negotiate your salary if you feel the first offer makes you short handed.. If you are not successful in getting the salary that you want, try to obtain other benefits, vacation leaves or bonuses.

8. Thank the employer when the offer was made but take your time before coming up with any job offer decision.

9. Be persuasive but not overly aggressive in negotiating your target salary.

10. Look at the entire compensation package being offered, not just the salary. Ask about all the benefits that the company will give, because it will probably be very useful for your future.

Remember that if it’s the job that you really want and it will be a good starting point or ascension for your career, don’t be greedy. In a way, high paid jobs is not that important if you will not going to enjoy with what you’re doing.

Following are the few professional and technical free resume writing tips.

Use Titles or Headings That Match The Jobs You Want.

Use resume designs that grabs attention.

Analyze advertisement for job description and identify the key words. Use these keywords in your resume.

Identify the employer’s hidden needs. Solve these hidden needs in your resume.

Create an image of yourself that matches with the salary you are expecting. For example, language used in a resume for an $6 an hour position is much different than the language used for a $16 an hour position.

You can generate many more interviews by tweaking your resume and cover letter so that they address the specific skills each employer requests.

List your technical knowledge first, in an organized way. Your technical strengths must stand out clearly at the beginning of your resume.

List your qualifications in order of relevance, from most to least. Only list your degree and educational qualifications first if they are truly relevant to the job for which you are applying. If you’ve already done what you want to do in a new job, by all means, list it first, even if it wasn’t your most recent job. Abandon any strict adherence to a chronological ordering of your experience.

Quantify your experience wherever possible. Cite numerical figures, such as monetary budgets/funds saved, time periods/efficiency improved, lines of code written/debugged, numbers of machines administered/fixed, etc. which demonstrate progress or accomplishments due directly to your work.

Begin sentences with action verbs. Portray yourself as someone who is active, uses their brain, and gets things done. Stick with the past tense, even for descriptions of currently held positions, to avoid confusion.

Don’t sell yourself short. Your experiences are worthy for review by hiring managers. Treat your resume as an advertisement for you.

Keep your resume concise. Avoid lengthy descriptions of whole projects of which you were only a part.

Minimize usage of articles (the, an, a) and never use “I” or other pronouns to identify yourself.

Have a trusted friend review your resume.

Proofread. Your resume should never go with errors, grammatical weaknesses, unusual punctuation, and inconsistent capitalizations.

Sometimes you need to hide your age. If you’re over 40 or 50 or 60, remember that you don’t have to present your entire work history! You can simply label THAT part of your resume “Recent Work History” or “Relevant Work History” and then describe only the last 10 or 15 years of your experience.

What if you never had any “real” paid jobs? Give yourself credit, and create an accurate, fair job-title for yourself. For example, A&S Hauling & Cleaning (Self-employed) or Household Repairman, Self-employed.

Best way to impress your employer is, fill your resume with “PAR” statements. PAR stands for Problem-Action-Results; in other words, first you state the problem that existed in your workplace, then you describe what you did about it, and finally you point out the beneficial results.

Don’t go far back in your work history. About 10 or 15 years is usually enough – unless your “juiciest” work experience is from farther back.

How can a student list summer jobs? Students can make their resume look neater by listing seasonal jobs very simply, such as “Spring 1996″ or “Summer 1996″ rather than 6/96 to 9/96.

Name and headings in the resume should be in the font size of 14 to 16. Similarly, content information should be in in font size of 10 to 12, depending on the font style chosen.
